When loyalty KPIs drop, the first reaction is often: “We need better rewards.” More points, bigger discounts, maybe even free unicorns. But in my experience, rewards are rarely the real problem. The issue is usually hidden somewhere else in the system. That’s why I use a simple MECE issue tree to diagnose loyalty programs. Break the problem into Customer Behaviour, Program Mechanics, and Customer Experience Pillars, and suddenly the root cause becomes clear.
